Who We Are

Speakers’ Avenue is an experienced and creative team – more than 130 filmmakers: 6 Oscar nominees, BAFTA winners, European Film Award winners; winners of the Berlinale and other leading festivals around the world.
We want to share knowledge, supporting your expression and ideas with film.

What We Do

Since 2010, Speakers’ Avenue has been conducting creative courses in the field of film. Courses are conducted in Polish or English. We believe in continuous professional and personal development and the emergence of ever-new qualities in cinema and area of film.

8-month practical course for those who want to find or improve their film style. The course will end with the professional production of a short film. Each participant will have an individual artistic supervision.

Psychodynamics of joining the film set. We learn to recognize and name the emotions that accompany entering camera rehearsals. We learn the basics of psychology, set terminology, actor and actress filming techniques.

Team

Grzegorz Pamrów

A graduate of the University of Sydney, Department of Art and Film Studies, and the Sydney Film School. He also graduated from the University of Warsaw and SWPS (faculty of linguistics and English Studies). He took part in numerous film workshops organized by Universal Pictures (Australia). He collaborated with various universities and organizations, conducting courses on art, film and medicine: audiovision, music video analysis, animated film, Hollywood history, film perception, psychology and cinema. He was the Deputy Director of the Film Laboratory at SWPS (academic / scientific consulting center – over 50 film scripts and editing versions). Main areas of interest: aesthetics of film language, audiovisual perception, perception of the human body in relation to “non-organic” film elements, cinematography, film stories, creative thinking.

Piotr Dumała

Director and screenwriter of feature and animated films, writer, draftsman, graphic artist, prose writer and author of the scenography for animated films. Professor of film art, lecturer at the Cinematography and Television Production Department of the Polish National Film, Television and Theater School Leon Schiller in Łódź, Faculty of Animation at the University College of Arts Crafts and Design Konstfack in Sweden, and Harvard University in the USA.

Bartek Konopka Director / Lecturer

Oscar nominated director for the Rabbit a la Berlin (2009) documentary that was shown at more than 70 festivals, received a dozen prizes and had been sold to over 40 countries. His feature fiction debut Fear of Falling (2011) co-written with Piotr Borkowski was premiered at Montreal IFF (awarded at Mannheim, Mumbai, Lecce, Vincennes, Gdynia). Author of many documentaries and couple of fictions. Nearly each of them was awarded internationally.
Bartek is a graduate of film studies at the Jagiellonian University Cracow and of directing at the Silesian University Katowice, plus Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing. Member of European Film Academy and the Board of Polish Film Institute. A lecturer in film schools of Katowice and Warsaw. He is a member of European Film Academy and was a member of the Board of Polish Film Institute (years 2011-2014).He was also a director of Polish version of internationally renowned HBO TV series – IN TREATMENT.

His new feature project The Mute co-written with Przemysław Nowakowski was awarded as the Best Script in Scripteast program at Cannes Film Festival 2013.

Jagoda Szelc

Director and screenwriter. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw in 2006. In 2004 she was a scholarship holder at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki. In 2012 she was a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture. In 2018, she graduated with honors from the Directing Department at the Film School in Łódź. Her films have been screened at festivals such as Karlove Vary, Hot Docs, Cannes Short Corner, New Horizons and Brooklyn Film Festival and many others. Her short feature ‘Such a Landscape’ won the top prize for a student film – the Golden Tadpole at the Camerimage Film Festival (2013). In 2017, her film debut ‘Tower. A Bright Day’ won the Best Debut and Screenplay awards at the 42nd Polish Feature Film Festival and many other international awards. It was screened at the Berlinale Festival in the prestigious Forum section. In 2018, she was awarded the Passports of Polityka. In the same year, she completed her second feature film Monument (special award of the 43rd Polish Feature Film Festival). She teaches feature film directing at the Łódź Film School and camera work at Wrocław AST. She is a vegan. A friend of the Open Cages organization..

Jacek Podgórski Cinematographer / Lecturer

A graduate of the Cinematography Department at the Film School in Łódź. The cinematographer for many short and feature films. In 2018, he received the award for the best cinematography for ‘Blood of God’ (2018) dir. Bartosz Konopka at the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia 2018. Cinematography for ‘Bikini Blue’ (2017) dir. Jarosław Marszewski brought him a number of awards at film festivals in Romford, Mindfield Film Festival, Birmingham Film Festival as well as North American Film Award and Los Angeles Movie Awards. He amazingly photographed a short film ‘Moloch’ (2015) by Szymon Kapelniak. Recently he has worked on ‘Najmro’ by Mateusz Rakowicz.

Tomasz Bagiński

Draftsman, painter, director of short animated films, cinematics and intro for games, commercials. His projects have been successful on the international scene for years. In 2003, for the film ‘The Cathedral’ he was nominated for an Oscar and received the main award at the SIGGRAPH festival. In 2006, he was awarded the BAFTA Award for the film ‘Fall Art’. The spot for the Olympic Games in Sochi, prepared for the BBC, brought him another BAFTA award. He is responsible for directing famous cinematics and game trailers (‘The Witcher’, ‘The Witcher 2’, ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hubt’ and ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ and others). He is an executive producer and one of the directors of the series The Witcher for the Netflix platform, based on books by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Rafael Kapeliński

Raphael is a London-based, award-winning writer/director and lecturer. Since 2006, he has been making short and feature films that have won more than twenty-five international awards at major festivals such as Cannes, Oberhausen, Austin, New Horizons and Brest, Berlinare. His debut feature “Butterfly Kisses” (BBC Films / Film London ) won the Crystal Bear at the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival. Raphael teaches all aspects of feature directing, practical filmmaking and screenwriting at The London Film School, The Central London Film School, The London Film Academy, The Northern Film, American Film Institute in Los Angeles. Creator.

Michał Marczak

Michal Marczak received the Best Director Award at Sundance 2016, among other awards, for ALL THESE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, and appeared on many lists of the year’s best films, including Rolling Stone Magazine and IndieWire (recently named among the 100 best films of the century). His previous film FUCK FOR FOREST, which premiered in the main competition at SXSW, was distributed theatrically in many countries and was named by the British magazine Dazed and Confused as “one of the ten most innovative and genre-developing documentaries of recent years.” In addition to feature projects, Michal Marczak also directs music videos, and has worked with such artists as Radiohead (“I Promise”), Mark Pritchard feat Thom Yorke (“Beautiful People”), Artur Rojek, Jacek Sienkiewicz, and Brodka. Michal’s commercial work has earned him numerous awards and nominations, including: Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase 2018, Cannes YDA, Creative Circle, UKMVA. Michal was also named “one of the top ten cinematographers of 2017” according to IndieWire, alongside names such as Roger Deakins and Hoyte van Hoytema.

Łukasz Żal Cinematographer / Lecturer

Łukasz Żal is an Academy Award nominated cinematographer based in Poland. COLD WAR directed by Paweł Pawlikowski landed Łukasz Żal not only the Oscar nomination, but also ASC Award, the Silver Frog Award for cinematography at the 2018 Camerimage Festival in Poland, as well as a nomination for BAFTA Award. For the first time, Łukasz was nominated for the Academy Award in 2016 for Pawlikowski’s IDA and was one of two cinematographers of an Oscar nominated animation LOVING VINCENT (dir. Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman) in 2017. Cinematographer on DOVLATOV (dir. Aleksiej German).

Piotr Stasik Director / Lecturer

Cinematographer, director and screenwriter. He co-founded the Society of Creative Initiatives “ę”. He was president of the Film 1,2 Association. He made the film series “How to make a film” (2010) and School Music Library (2011). His documentaries “A Diary of a Journey” (2013), “The End of Summer” (2010), “7 x Moscow” (2005) were presented and awarded at many festivals. In 2016 he won a nomination for the European Film Award for his film “21 x New York.”

Piotr Borkowski Screenwriter / Lecturer

He is a graduate of English Studies at UW. He also studied philosophy and film studies at Warwick University, UK. Long-time lecturer in English Studies, first at Warsaw University and then at SWPS University (including cultural theory, film narrative, American genre cinema, auteur cinema, history and contemporary cinema). He participated in the EKRAN programs at the Wajda School and the ScripTeast program. In 2010-2016, he was a member of the board of the SFP Screenwriters’ Circle. In 2011-2013, he ran the SWPS Film Lab. Co-wrote 4 film scripts in the “30 minutes” program (together with their directors: Bartek Konopka, Leszek Molski, Maciej Górski, Filip Dzierżawski). He was the main author of the screenplay for Bartek Konopka’s feature debut, Fear of Falling (2011). In addition to supporting directors at the beginning of their careers, in 2013 he worked on an unrealized film project by the late Krzysztof Krauze and Joanna Kos-Krauze, and later, from 2014, on several film projects by Pawel Pawlikowski, including Cold War (2018) (together with the late Janusz Glowacki). Among the many accolades that Cold War has received are a European Film Award for Best Screenwriter and a BAFTA nomination for Best Screenplay.

Bartosz Nalazek Cinematographer / Lecturer

Bartosz Nalazek is a Polish cinematographer based in Los Angeles.

His narrative work includes feature films ‘Run Sweetheart, Run’ written and directed by Shana Feste, selected for the ‘Midnight’ section of Sundance 2020; ‘Eastern’ directed by Piotr Adamski selected for The Polish Academy Awards; ‘Tell It To The Bees’ directed by Annabel Jankel that premiered at TIFF 2018 starring Anna Paquin and Holiday Grainger; the Netflix hit ‘The Perfect Date’ directed by Chris Nelson and ‘Song of Back and Neck’ directed by Paul Liberstein, selected for US Competition of Tribeca Film Festival 2018.In television Bartosz debuted with ‘The Artists’ directed by Monika Strzępka that were nominated for Best TV series of 2016 by the Polish Academy.Bartosz also worked as 2nd Unit Director of Photography for Janusz Kaminski on ‘Call of the Wild’ directed by Chris Sanders, ‘The Post’ directed by Steven Spielberg and for David Franco on ‘Boychoir’ directed by Francois Girard.

After graduating from The Polish National Film School in Lodz he assisted cinematographer Janusz Kaminski on feature films ‘War Horse’, ‘Lincoln’, ‘The Judge’ and ‘Bridge of Spies’. He was selected for The Emerging Cinematographer Award in 2014 by The International Cinematographers Guild and nominated for the Streamy Award for his work on ‘Making A Scene’ for The New York Times Magazine.Bartosz works also as light designer and video artist for theater and opera. His portfolio includes over 30 plays in collaboration with renown polish theater directors such as Krzysztof Garbaczewski, Krystian Lupa, Andrzej Chyra, Barbara, Wysocka, Maja Kleczewska, Agnieszka Olsten, Wiktor Rubin and Lukasz Twarkowski. In 2014 he received a prize for best visual design for ‘Kronos’ on the 7th Devine Comedy International Theater Festival

Jacek Nagłowski

Co-founder of the Centrala company (2004) which specilizes in the production of documentary and feature films. To date, he has produced twenty-five films, mostly international co-productions. In 2015, together with Milenia Fiedler and Iwona Pomianowska, he initiated the Cinematic VR language research project at the Łódź Film School. In 2016, the pictures for his clip Tiger in a Cocoon (director, editor, producer) were one of the first cinematic VR productions in Europe. He conducts the first spherical and VR film classes in Poland for students of the Łódź Film School. Since 2016, he has been organizing one of the largest film and virtual reality art reviews in Europe, ‘Time-Space’, whose task is to promote VR as an artistic field. Co-founder of the Pracownia Edukacyjna Foundation, which opened a primary school based on an original educational program under the auspices of the Department of Creative Pedagogy of the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the University in Lodz. The school is based on the paradigms of freedom education and education for creativity.

Michał Stec

Michał is a graduate of New York Film Academy and Lodz Film School. He is a senior art producer of ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.’

Miłosz Hermanowicz Director / Editor

>He initially worked for television. He has edited various films for the cinema, mainly documentaries. He made three short films. The second, “RED LADY”, won the Grand Prix at the Courant 3D festival in Angoulême, France in 2014 and was added to the Blu-ray disc “FRENCH 3D” released by Unifrance. In 2016, he made his first 360 ° film “AFTER THE APOCALYPSE”. He specializes in 360 ° and stereoscopic image techniques.

Przemek Danowski

A graduate of the Music Academy Fryderyk Chopin in Warsaw. For over 10 years a lecturer in the Multimedia Art Creation Workshop run jointly by the Academy of Fine Arts and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. He deals with sound in interactive and multimedia forms. Creator of sound fittings and music composer for computer games, theater performances, films and multimedia. Author of spatial sound and artistic multimedia installations. Musician multi-instrumentalist, music producer and DJ. Assistant at the Department of Sound Engineering at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. Creator and curator of the permanent exhibition of VR projections – UMFC VR. Currently working on a doctoral dissertation on the creation of sound in virtual space.

Jakub Wróblewski

Interdisciplinary artist, director and cinematographer. Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Media Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He deals with video, interactive film, audiovisual narration, film theory, graphic narrative structures, as well as artistic and scientific projects. He runs the 3D diploma studio and Virtual Occurrences II / WSM / WWA at the Academy. Co-founder of Open Lab Narration Systems, lecturer at Speakers Avenue Training Institute. Creator of visual grammar in Jaśmina Wójcik film- ‘Symphony of the Ursus Factory’ (Film Award of the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw and the Polish Film Institute). Young Poland Award (National Center of Culture, program of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage), program maintainer Gaude Polonia (NCK), Grand Prix Multimedia Szajna Festival.

Dawid Borkiewicz VFX Supervisor

A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań. Former computer graphics manager at the largest Polish studios, Platige Image and Alvernia. Currently a senior 3D generalist and digital composer at RodeoFx Montreal. He worked, among others, on: ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Arrival’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts’.

Radek Ochnio Sound Designer

A graduate of the PWSFTviT in Wrocław and the PWSFTviT in Łódź. He works with the best independent film directors and visual artists in Poland, such as Joanna Kos Krauze, Wojciech Smarzowski, Jerzy Skolimowski, Michał Marczak, Kuba Czekaj and Katarzyna Kozyra. In 2016 he received European Film Academy award for the best sound project for 11 minutes / 11 minutes (2015) of Jerzy Skolimowski.

Iwona Pomianowska

Filmmaker, editor, graphic artist and psychologist. Iwona is a lecturer in film editing and narrative at PWSFTviT in Łódź; ‘Visual perception of film and the media’ at the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Warsaw and ‘Designing video games and virtual reality’ at the Art Department of the University of Sylesia. Iwona is the author of many articles in the field of film and perception. She is a member of the research group “3D spherical film – the birth of a new visual language in narrative” at the Lodz Film School, and also a member of the Innovation Lab VRT National Broadcast Belgium.

Beata Calińska

Beata Calinska is the manager of the New Frontier Labs Program at Sundance Institute. She has had professional experiences that helped her develop a balanced perspective on projects—she’s also worked in diplomacy and for several creative studios in New York and Los Angeles. She’s completed an MA in cultural anthropology at the University of Lodz, went through the film and TV production program at the Lodz Film School, received scholarships in visual anthropology at the University of Cyprus, and documentary media at the University of California in Los Angeles. She was also selected as a resident fellow for UnionDocs’ Collaborative Program in New York.

Her films have been screened at Visions du Réel, BAMcinemaFest in New York, NewFilmmakers Los Angeles, Thessaloniki International Film Festival, and Cyprus International Film Festival, among many others. She was also awarded first prize at the Goethe Institute international competition for her documentary short. Beata is currently based in Los Angeles.

Patryk Jordanowicz Cinematographer / Lecturer

Cinematographer, director, producer. He studied Film Studies at the Jagiellonian University and Cinematography at WRiTV/Krzysztof Kieslowski Film School. He photographed many documentary and feature films. He has hundreds of hours of work on television series, commercials and music videos. In 2016, together with the director Jacek Nagłowski, he made one of the first 3D VR (3D virtual reality) music videos in Europe in live action / CG for Loa Frida. In the following years he was the DOP for the appreciated VR experiences, including:
music documentary “Smolik / Kev Fox on the road” (cinema distribution) dir .: Paweł Orwat or VR adaptation of the theater spectacle entitled “Biesy” directed by Natalia Korczakowska and VR adaptation by Jacek Nagłowski. In 2019, as part of the Biennale College Cinema as a co-director and cinematographer, he and Jacek Nagłowski realized the VR experience “Whispers”, which premiered at the La Biennale di Venezia and won a Special Award at the Cinergia festival for the best Polish VR in the documentary category. “Whispers” also received the Organizers’ Special Award at the Lublin Film Festival. Currently working on the VR project entitled “SELF”, which was chosen in the VnLab competition: VR / AR Laboratory of Visual Narrative PWSFTviT (Lodz Film School) for 2020.
